Lonely Planet Co

Before I begin, I would like to say these items were sent to me for my honest review. In the past I have been easily impressed, but with so many liquid lipsticks being released lately I try to be a lot more specific with my reviews. I'm starting to look for certain qualities in the lipstick I purchase and recommend. Because I'm such a fan of liquid lipsticks, I tend to be very picky these days!

This brand is fairly new to the lipstick community. They are an indie brand based out of Orange County, CA and can be found only on here on Etsy at the moment. The founder and creator of this brand was inspired by New York City, Rock'N'Roll, and the 1970's which is apparent with its names! As a lover of all those things, I was really excited about  this brand. They sell for $15 which is not bad for a liquid lipstick and shipping is an additional $6+ depending on the speed and package size.

When I received word from the owner that she would be sending me product I was beyond excited because I had my eye on quite a few! There are SO many amazing colors to choose from. Naturally, I went for colors in all the same family. After I put in my selections/order, I received shipping confirmation within 3 days. As you will note, their Etsy (Order was placed on a Sunday and they shipped Wednesday.) Unfortunately, due to the holidays and USPS, even though I was supposed to receive my packages that Saturday, I didn't receive them until Tuesday the following week. This was at no fault to the shipper, but fully USPS as usual. Yes, I am bitter.

Needless to say, when I finally received my package I was beyond excited to tear it open and try these babies out!! Right off the bat I started pulling them out of their boxes which were simple black boxes with the brand label "Lonely Planet."

The lipsticks were also individually wrapped with plastic which I quickly tore off before I could even get a picture. I WAS DYING TO SWATCH ALREADY.  Each lippie was labeled with its name with a white label and a heart below its name. ❤️

First swatch done. Strange Obsession was front and center. It's described as "taupe sepia" and it is GORGEOUS. Right off the bat I could tell from just the one swatch I was in love. The formula was SO smooth and it smelled of marshmallows and almost a hint of Play-Doh (think Glam Glow). As I swatched it I noticed how pigmented it was but still went for a second layer. The formula didn't get heavy or clumpy at all.

This was one of the colors I took out for a spin for a whole day. I fell in LOVE with it. It reminded me a bit of Jeffree Star's Posh Spice meets Celebrity Skin. The color did translate well to the lips and still kept that greige color. As you can see below, the formula was not clumpy at all after two layers.

Next up I swatched Bowery V which is described as a berry mauve. I noticed when I first stalked their Instagram that this color seemed to sell out the most. I can definitely see why!! I'm ALL about mauve lipsticks and another perfect one to the collection made me so happy. The one thing that I saw consistent with each color I swatched was how light they were. I can't even compare it to any other formulas I own. It's not drying at all. It's a cross between NYX liquid suede and Stila liquid lipsticks. They come to more of a dry than NYX but they're not as drying as Stila, if you've tried both of these then I hope that makes sense! It's definitely a moussey formula.

Following Bowery V we have New Pleasure. This is one of the newer shades as far as I know. It's somewhat of a plum beige. Similar to Bowery V and Strange Obsession as far as color range goes. I'm in love with this range of shades so I was very pleased with it. The brush of these lippies is a bit smaller than what I'm used to for liquid lipsticks, but I actually really liked this minor detail. Because it's smaller, it doesn't carry as much product so you don't waste any of it. I definitely noticed the application was made easier because of this. I didn't feel like I was glopping it on my lips. Is glopping even a word? Oops

Second to last I swatched Rebel Rebel. This one is described as a "medium plum" and is already my favorite. The dry time on my arm swatches was about 90 seconds but seemed much quicker on the lips. I didn't get the exact dry time after I applied it to the lips.

I did my first test with this color as soon as I received them. I wanted to use one of the more vibrant colors. I'm so glad I went with this one because I'm so so very much in love with it. I am not kidding when I say it is my favorite. I began my day with it around 1:15 PM. First stop was the Country Mercantile for some fresh fudge, salsa, and olive oil.

I did notice in some selfies it had more of a violet tint to it. I mean, I most definitely am not complaining because I felt fabulous in it.

Left to right: One hour after application, 5 1/2 hours after, 7 1/2 hours after
As you can see above, the lipstick was still hanging on for dear life after 7 hours. During those hours I was eating chips and salsa, fudge, drinking green tea, and had dinner which contained olive oil as an essential ingredient. I don't think it was until after dinner that I saw any difference or fading. Luckily, it did not feather at all. At no point did I reapply. Had I not been munching on everything in sight, this formula would have lasted all day. I would say the total wear time 8 hours with eating. This time is calculated based on the time there was still product on my lips.

Last, I swatched Rapture. I love this color. I have yet to enjoy it on my lips, but the color is very unique. It's a burnt red with slight brown undertones. This was the only one that looked different online than when I got it. I wasn't disappointed though because the color was so pretty.

Overall I would give them a solid 5 stars. Considering they are vegan, cruelty free, handmade products, I definitely think they are worth the price. This formula WILL surprise you if you give it a chance. If you are on the hunt for a new liquid lipstick to try and enjoy supporting small businesses, this would be number one on my list of recommendations.

More swatches in natural light. As you can see below, the colors to transfer from the tube to swatches quite perfectly.

Rebel Rebel's first challenge: The strawberry green tea drink.
Quick mention, As you can see in the photo above, there was some transfer to my straw. Although it wasn't 100% "kiss proof," the transfer was minimal and didn't affect the lip color itself.

I would really like to thank Lonely Planet Co for giving me the opportunity to try such an amazing new brand. I know I mentioned before in the past I've been easily impressed, but this time I was genuinely satisfied with this new product. You can definitely expect more reviews from me. What color was your favorite?

Next up on the blog, review on Swirl and Sparkle handmade soaps. Yes, FINALLY.

XoXo
