Colourpop Throws It Back

Out of all the "affordable" brands I've used Colourpop is most consistent when it comes to surprising me with amazing collections. The "Throws It Back" collection released on August 31st has been one of my favorites thus far. Featuring six new shades in Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencils as well as nine Super Shock Shadows, one pressed pigment, and two matte blushes, the Throws it Back collection highlights the 90's era which becomes apparent with its names. I ordered two Lippie Stix, two Lippie Pencils, and two Super Shock Shadows. I also picked up one more Ultra Matte Lippies and another Super Shock shadow. I'm pretty much in love with EVERYTHING.

Unboxing is always my favorite thing in the world. There was no exception to this mini haul. I quickly unboxed everything and began swatching.

The thing about Colourpop that I love is how simple they keep it. All white everything with just a touch of color indicating their shade. Much perfection, as usual.

First up we have the lip products. My favorites, of course.

Swatched in sunlight.
Swatched top to bottom, Ultra Matte Lippie in Beeper, Lippie Stix in Grunge, Oh Snap, Poison, and Lippie Pencils in Dazed and Contempo.

Swatched in natural light.

It's always a struggle trying to decide which colors to get in Lippie Stix and which to get in Lippie Pencils. As much as I'd love to own both in each color, my wallet tells me no EVERY TIME. There are a few shades I own in both though. You gotta do what you gotta do.

This collection made it easy for me. From the top, Beeper is a nude beige similar to Jeffree Star's Celebrity Skin. When I saw swatches of it I thought it was more of a mauve nude, but it definitely wasn't. I still love it though!! Next is Grunge which is described as a plum brown and I would have to agree. It's such a fall color and 100% 90's. Oh Snap is a GORGEOUS nude that I'm so glad I ordered in the Lippie Stix instead of the Pencil. Poison reminds me the poisoned red apple in Snow White. It's a very pretty deep red and I love love love red lipsticks. (Fun fact, my first red lipstick was actually one of the minis sent to me from Julep years ago.) Below Poison is Dazed. Dazed is berry brown red that I got in a pencil which I'm sooooooo glad I did because this will be an amazing lip liner for a ton of shades I own, including my newest Kiko Cosmetics in 614. I'll talk more about that beauty in another post. ;) Last but not least, we have Contempo. Contempo is BEAUTIFUL and probably my most favorite shade out of them all. I will probably order the Lippie Stix soon because the pencil was just as I expected.... Amazing. I ordered this shade specifically for the fact that I knew if I didn't love Oh Snap, that I could use this color as a base and make it pop! I was right. As soon as I got it I lined my lips with Contempo and did a soft fade into the center with Oh Snap. Lemme tell you, my people, this combo is a MUST if you're a nude lip lover. I pinkie promise.

There was one more shade in the collection that I didn't order this round. Nevermind is a plum Lippie Stix that I would usually love but didn't shout out to me at the moment I placed my order.

Moving on to the Super Shock Shadows.

Clockwise from the top: Stereo (Metallic), Nillionaire (Metallic), and Party Time (Matte). Nillionaire isn't anything new, it's actually an older shade that I saw on Instagram and fell in love with! I hadn't seen it swatched, just in its pot, and I knew I had to have it. Of course I did my research and found a million (yes, that's an exaggeration) swatches that just blew my mind. It was almost like the limited edition Birthday Girl. It was perfect.

I couldn't wait to dip my fingers into these shadows. I mean, LOOK. AT. THEM!! Just like all other Coloupop Super Shock Shadows, the pigmentation is incredible and doesn't disappoint.

Swatched in natural light.

Once I swatched them on the arm, it was game over. My heart. So beautiful!! I wish I had ordered more, to be honest. I'm already creating a wish list for my next order. The only color I was a little bit surprised to see wasn't as pigmented as I've seen swatched was Stereo. Do not get me wrong, it's a STUNNING color. It did take some building though.

Sunlight.
Nillionaire has specks of pink shimmer in with the gold metallic finish. I'm so glad I picked this one up. In fact, I wore it today! I'll post a pic of my look below.
Party Time is a greige plum that I'm currently obsessed with just from its swatch. I honestly debated between this one and Boy Band, but after several swatches I went with it. It is beautiful and I really can't wait to use this in a look.
Stereo is a very unique color. They describe it as a blackened burgundy with pink violet. I would say blackened but with very little burgundy and subtle hints of pink specks. It should be interesting to use this one in a look. I'll definitely keep y'all posted.

Swatched in sunlight.
The metallics are best applied with a dense brush or finger to translate the pigmentation to the eyelid. As far as the mattes go, I still haven't found the best method aside from fingers. If you have any suggestions to help with applying and blending, please do not hesitate to let me know in the comments below!

This collection and all its glory can be found here. Everything except the Ultra Matte Lip sells for $5. Yes, $5! The Ultra Matte lippies sell for $6 and although they are not at the top of my favorites list, they're definitely among the top rated for their price. I highly suggest if you haven't checked this brand out, you give it a shot. Shipping is free after $30 which I find amazing because that means you can order anywhere from 3- 6 products to qualify for free shipping. Therefore, amazing. Duh.

Photo of today's look I quickly put together featuring Colourpop "Nillionaire" and Lonely Planet Co's "Strange Obsession."

That's about it this time around. I am just finishing up with my review on the Lonely Planet Co liquid lipsticks. I wanted to give myself more than enough time with them to be able to give an honest review. So expect that post tomorrow evening!

XoXo
